Mentors of the Month

November 2026: ACP congratulates Michelle Alvarez & John Albanese

November 1, 2026

“I am nominating Michelle Alvarez for Mentor of the Month because of the generosity and consistency she’s shown in supporting my job search over these past months. She has reviewed my resume and LinkedIn profile in detail, offering thoughtful, practical feedback that made both stronger. She’s walked me through how to prepare for interviews and how to approach applying for roles strategically, always taking the time to explain the “why” behind her advice rather than just handing me a checklist.

What stands out most is how generously she gives her time and experience. As a military spouse navigating a career gap and a career change, I’ve had a lot to work through and Michelle has met every part of it with patience and understanding. She listens closely to what I’m actually dealing with and offers wisdom that’s tailored to exactly where I am, not generic advice.

Michelle has made a real difference in how confident and prepared I feel in this search. Her mentorship reflects exactly the kind of support ACP aims to foster, and I’m grateful for the time and care she’s invested in helping me move forward. ”

-Donya H., Active-Duty Military Spouse, Florida

“For more than two years, I struggled to translate my background into interviews at the corporate level. I came from the Marine Corps Presidential Security Program and senior federal security roles, but I could not get hiring teams to see how that experience applied to enterprise corporate security. Five months ago, I began working with John, and the results have been measurable.
Since we started, I have reached the final round with two Fortune 500 companies and secured interviews with Google, Amazon, and JPMorgan Chase. None of that happened in the two years before John.

His impact came from working on the substance, not just offering encouragement. He rebuilt how I present my experience on my resume so that my scope and results read the way corporate hiring managers evaluate them. He prepared me for interviews at each stage. He identified the weaker areas of my background candidly and helped me build a plan to close them, including pushing me to complete my industry certifications rather than keep deferring them.

His guidance extended beyond the job search. When I faced difficult situations in my current role, John helped me think through them clearly and act with judgment. Those conversations have made me a stronger security leader today, not only a stronger candidate for the future.

What sets John apart is that he treats mentorship as a commitment to the outcome. He is direct when directness is needed, he follows through, and he invests time well beyond what the program requires. I am a significantly more capable and confident professional because of him, and I can think of no one more deserving of this recognition. ”
