Mentors of the Month

August 2025: ACP congratulates Jen Pittman and Yaharia Kane!

August 1, 2025

McKinsey LogoI’m incredibly grateful to Jennifer Pittman for her guidance and support during my transition from the military to business school and into the corporate world. We stepped on the gas pedal immediately after our first meeting because I was about to begin the MBA internship recruiting process, and she gave me the unfiltered view of her experience in business, my targeted industry, and how to translate my experiences into stories that hiring managers care about.

We were able to meet in person once when I traveled for a conference, and she offered invaluable advice and hard truths to help me gain a better perspective on the recruiting landscape, differences in hiring practices across industries, and even different practices within industries. From resume reviews to mock interviews, Jen always peels back another layer and finds a way to take what I’m already learning in my graduate program to another level. When Plan A didn’t work out, she was supportive and encouraging, checking in on me to make sure I wasn’t stalling for too long before getting back on my feet for Plan B.

Thanks to Jen’s support, I landed an MBA Supply Chain internship with a leading multinational company best known for its innovative products. Now I’m able to (somewhat) speak the same language and understand all of the advice she has shared over the past year. I truly appreciate Jen investing her time and energy in me to reach this point and I hope to continue paying it forward just as she has. Thank you, Jen!

Abbvie logoIt is my honor to nominate Yahaira as Mentor of the Month. Yahaira has been an exceptional mentor, a constant source of motivation, and my greatest support throughout my professional journey. When I was first matched with Yahaira, I was at a very low point in my career. I had recently graduated with my Master’s in Public Health, yet I was struggling to find any opportunities in the field, not even an internship. After facing repeated rejections, I had nearly given up on my dream of working in public health research.

Yahaira, who also holds a degree in Public Health and has established a strong career in research, turned out to be the perfect mentor for me. From our very first meeting, she reignited my passion for public health and reminded me of the possibilities that still lay ahead. She began by sharing free online courses to strengthen my resume and make me more competitive. She helped me revise my resume to align with industry standards and guided me through setting up a professional LinkedIn profile. Most importantly, she encouraged networking and even helped me secure a research internship in the emergency department of a local hospital.

Thanks to Yahaira’s support, I now have hands-on experience in public health research. She has continued to provide invaluable resources to expand my knowledge of research methods and build practical skills in the field. I am deeply grateful for Yahaira’s mentorship. Her guidance, encouragement, and unwavering belief in my potential have helped me turn my dream into a reality. Because of her, I am now proudly working in a role that once felt out of reach.
