Optimize and Elevate

Grimes, a Combat Engineer and ROTC instructor, joined ACP to get career guidance from an experienced Mentor while he prepared for military retirement. He’d spent the latter half of his Army career in roles closely related to civilian human resources and personnel management, and he knew he didn’t want to start over in an entry-level position. Working with Craig Cortright, a Partner in the Alternative Credit Group at Ares Management, gave Grimes the clarity and actionable steps he needed for professional success. Here’s how they did it.

Helping people direct their passion is Jennifer Ralston’s superpower. The CEO and founder of HKPO, a consulting firm focused on personal efficiency and improvement, Ralston works closely with the military community through HKPO Veterans Academy. The Academy works in conjunction with DoD SkillBridge to prepare Service Members for transition through real-world experience. This background made Ralston a perfect Mentor match for Lea Lato, US Army Colonel, as she progressed from the military to the private sector. Active-Duty Spouse and Air Force Veteran Cindy Thuli had given up on the prospect of meaningful employment when she was introduced to her Mentor, fellow Air Force Veteran Dawid Grzybowski. Now colleagues at USAA, Grzybowski was a crucial part in helping Thuli articulate the value of her immense experience to civilian employers.
