Sarah E. Smith

Sarah E. Smith is a former Member of the Management Committee of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., where she spent 25 years in key financial and governance roles. She served as Controller and Chief Accounting Officer until 2017, followed by Chief Compliance Officer from 2017 to 2020, and then Senior Advisor until her retirement in 2021. She joined Goldman Sachs in 1996, was named Managing Director in 1998, and Partner in 2002. She also served on the Firmwide Risk Committee, Commitments Committee, and Firmwide Investment Committee.

Before Goldman Sachs, Ms. Smith worked in the National and Audit practices of KPMG in London and New York and held finance positions at Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Ms. Smith is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Financial Accounting Foundation, the parent organization of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). She is a board member of VIA Transportation, Inc., Klarna Bank A.B., the Nuveen Churchill Private Capital Income Fund, and Aon plc.

She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
