Henry Schuster recently retired as an award-winning producer for the CBS News broadcast 60 MINUTES with assignments including Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Somalia and the border of Ukraine. He has reported, produced and written stories that range from newsmaker interviews, including the Navy SEAL who shot Osama bin Laden, to adventure and wildlife stories from Kenya, Mozambique and South Africa. His piece on the lack of health care for the uninsured in 2008 and work being done by Remote Area Medical prompted Congressional hearings and led to that issue taking center stage during and after the Presidential election of Barack Obama. His coverage of the Great Recession included groundbreaking interviews with Fed chairman Ben Bernanke and he was on hand when Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson and his team wrote their bill to rescue the financial system. While producing more than 90 reports for 60 MINUTES, Schuster exposed the inner workings of Supermax, America’s most secret and secure prison; reported on Russian corruption and alleged war crimes; and how a Pentagon employee stole secrets for the Chinese. 

Schuster’s coverage of the military and veterans issues is extensive. He covered Golf Company of the 2/8 Marines during their deployment in Helmand Province in 2009 then five years later did another segment on their adjustment to life after combat. He also did a series of reports beginning in 2011 on service members affected by blast exposure, then followed that with reports in 2018 and 2025 on ground-breaking research about brain damage discovered post-mortem. 

Henry Schuster also served as a member of the CBS/Viacom and Paramount veterans network and has been an ACP mentor for several years. Schuster is a board member and volunteer at REMOTE AREA MEDICAL. 

Before joining 60 MINUTES in 2007, he worked at CNN where he won major broadcast awards for his coverage of Hurricane Katrina, the collapse of the Soviet Union and the growth of al Qaeda. Schuster covered domestic and international terrorism from Oklahoma City to Afghanistan and Pakistan. He is also the author of HUNTING ERIC RUDOLPH, a narrative on the five-year manhunt for the Olympic Park bomber. 

Henry Schuster is a graduate of Emory University and Cambridge University; he also did a fellowship at the University of Chicago. He and his wife, Sandra, are residents of Beaufort, South Carolina. They have three adult sons.
