ACP Presents: ACP’s Career Blueprint – Taking Career Risks

February 13, 2024

On February 13th, ACP hosted an engaging panel featuring Joan Woodward, the EVP of Public Policy for Travelers and President of The Travelers Institute, discussing the key elements of a successful career change. Woodward joined Travelers in 2008 from Goldman Sachs, where she established The Travelers Institute as the company’s thought leadership and public policy platform. Prior to her current role, Woodward worked at Goldman, Sachs & Co. for ten years, serving as the founding Executive Director of the company’s Global Markets Institute and the Founding Director of Washington Equity and Bond Research for Goldman Sachs’ Global Investment Research.

She also held a 12-year career on Capitol Hill, serving as Deputy Chief of Staff for the U.S. Senate Finance Committee and Chief Economist for the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee and the U.S. House Budget Committee under Chairman John Kasich. Woodward is a member of Traveler’s Management Committee, Operating Committee, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Committee, and also serves on The Diversity Council, the Travelers Foundation Board, and chairs the Military and Veterans Diversity Network.

The webinar focused on providing valuable perspectives on strategizing ways Veterans can create a strategic plan and how to maximize a career shift. Using her personal experience as an example of courage and pursuit, Woodward thoroughly highlighted effective ways to build personal branding, pursue professional growth, and maximize time when connecting with a mentor or career coach. The event concluded with a live Q&A session with the virtual audience.
