Senator Dole was elected to Congress from his home state of Kansas in 1960 and to the U.S. Senate in 1968. He gained national prominence as Chairman of the Republican National Committee from 1971 to 1972 and was the Republican nominee in the 1996 U.S. Presidential election and the Republican Vice Presidential nominee in the 1976 U.S. Presidential election.

Senator Dole is currently Special Counsel in Alston & Bird’s Washington, D.C. office and a member of the Legislative and Public Policy Group. He focuses his practice on international and domestic legislative policy and regulatory affairs as well as on healthcare policy and related matters. In addition to his law practice, Senator Dole is President of Bob Dole Enterprises, Inc., which manages his other business activities, including public speaking, commercial appearances, consulting, and writing.

Senator Dole has served the public in a number of capacities, including as Chairman of the National World War II Memorial, Chairman of the International Commission on Missing Persons in the former Yugoslavia, Chairman of the Federal City Council, and Co-Chair of the President's Commission on Care for America's Returning Wounded Warriors.

Senator Dole received an undergraduate and law degree from Washburn Municipal University, Topeka, Kansas.
