Late last year, mentors and protégés from EFH’s Military Mentoring Program gathered at the Fairmont in Downtown Dallas with Mike Williams, Luminant’s chief fossil officer, and Rich Landy, EFH’s executive vice president of human resources, to honor the Mentor’s commitment to an important program.

“We owe a lot to those who serve in the military, and thanks to the employees who have enlisted in the Military Mentoring Program we’re able to show that our company and our employees support our troops,” said Landy. “The reception celebrated the many successes the program had in 2010, and truly honored the men and women from the EFH family of companies who took the time to invest in these individuals future.”

In 2010, 22 mentors from EFH, Luminant and TXU Energy participated in the American Corporate Partners (ACP) Veteran mentoring program, committing to a year-long relationship with a protégé. Each month the teams build on their friendship and spend time discussing career path options and job skills. The guidance provided by the mentors can have a positive impact on these recent Veterans’ current job search and long-term careers.

“The program has helped me determine where I might fit in corporate America, gauge the value of a graduate degree, and helped me understand the substance and structure of the energy business in Texas,” said Protégé David A. Sisk, CPT, EN Commanding in the United States Army.

Thanks to the hard work the mentor and protégé teams put in over the year, several protégés found permanent jobs, and everyone benefitted from resume assistance, networking pointers and discussions about career development goals and plans.

“Our mentors are what make the program a success,” explained Landy. “Without their dedication we couldn’t support these individuals as they transition from active duty to the work force. The mentors did an amazing job in 2010, and I’m certain the programs success will continue in 2011.”

The EFH family of companies has participated in the ACP Mentor program since 2009, and would like to increase its number of mentors in 2011.
