If you live in one of the cities of participation, you should apply to the In-Person Mentoring program. If you live outside a 100-mile radius of one of these cities, you should apply to our E-Mentoring program.
ACP Operations Associates are in contact with Mentors and Protégés at the end of the first month after being introduced, at the end of the second month of the mentorship, and every quarter thereafter.
ACP encourages group sessions between Mentors and Protégés, as these can expand your network of contacts. Please feel free to contact ACP if you need help contacting other Mentors and Protégés in your area.
Activities should center on the shared interest of the Mentor and Protégé. Ideally, the activities will be a combination of recreational activities, personal interaction, and professional training toward career advancement. For a detailed list of recommended activities and approaches to the yearlong mentorship, please visit Mentoring Tips or Effective E-Mentorships on our website.
ACP hopes that the relationship between Mentor and Protégé will endure beyond the one-year commitment. While it is possible for the Mentor to renew for a second year with a different Protégé, ACP has too many veteran applicants to allow Protégés to continue for a second year.
Yes. While veterans may be employed or attending school, we understand that many of our veteran Protégés are currently transitioning into new careers and do not necessarily hold full time positions. Those veteran Protégés who are currently unemployed are encouraged to work on résumé writing, interview practice, and career strategies with their Mentors as they actively pursue new employment. Please note that ACP is not a jobs program, but a tool for networking and long-term career development.
